Toasted Marshmallow Latte

James Marinos • Aug 17, 2022

Simple and delicious, our toasted marshmallow latte recipe!

Whether you like marshmallows or not, we can certify that this is what we think they were always destined for, a certifiably delicious toasted marshmallow latte!

It all comes down to our toasted marshmallow simple syrup, which gives you the sweet base for your latte, without the need to add marshmallows (should you wish).

The rich flavour of vanilla and sugar content when toasted releases rich flavours of sweet caramel and vanilla which is more akin to that of a Crème Brûlée, whist of course still tasting very much like a toasted marshmallow.

The coffee and steamed milk also take on an unmistakably toasty flavour from the syrup too, which while sweet, it’s not sickeningly so and the amount you use is completely up to you!

So dive into this latte which in our opinion is truly the best of all worlds: creamy, strong and marshmallow s’mores wrapped in nostalgia of campfires past! What more could you ask for!?

    Super Crema

FOR THE TOASTED MARSHMALLOW SYRUP:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

10 large marshmallows

1 splash of vanilla extract

1 pinch of salt

FOR TWO LATTES:

½ cup hot Super Crema

1½ cups steamed milk

2 oz toasted marshmallow syrup/to taste.

Caramel syrup & marshmallow fluff as optional garnish

THE METHOD

TOASTED MARSHMALLOW SYRUP

  • Bring the sugar and water to a boil over medium heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Carefully skewer the marshmallows onto a metal skewer and toast them over a gas burner until evenly browned, be careful not to char them. Alternatively, you can use a kitchen torch.
  • Add the marshmallows, salt and vanilla to the hot syrup and whisk until fully melted and incorporated and allow the syrup to cool slightly.
  • Place a fine-mesh strainer over the top of a heat-proof storage container and pour the syrup through the strainer into the container. Use immediately or cool completely and store the syrup covered in the fridge for up to two weeks.

FOR TWO LATTES

  • Divide the syrup and Super Crema coffee between two mugs and top each with the steamed milk.
  • Place the marshmallow fluff and or marshmallows on top.
  • Serve immediately, garnished with caramel syrup and toasted marshmallows.

Beans stay fresher for longer, and so your coffee should taste better, too. As soon as green coffee beans are roasted, they start to release CO2, which affects the taste. They will oxidise and slowly start to go 'stale' and have a flat taste after a while. When coffee is ground, there is a higher surface area which is exposed to oxygen and that will cause them to lose their freshness faster, so it's best to keep coffee beans whole as close to brewing as possible. Treat your coffee beans similarly to potatoes: store them in a dark, dry place. It's best they are kept in a container or the bag they come in to stop oxygen and moisture getting in.
